Kansas has been shooting paint longer than most states, and it still has room for both a big wooded park outside Lawrence and a weekend field on the edge of Wichita. Here are the venues we found that are up and running, with the details straight from their own websites.

DROP ZONE PAINTBALL

Drop Zone Paintball sits west of Baldwin City and serves the Lawrence, Topeka, Olathe and Overland Park crowd. They call themselves the longest-standing paintball park in Kansas, running since 1989, and that history shows in the grounds: more than 80 acres of shaded terrain, with main courses roughly the size of a football field, loaded with bunkers, towers, trees and streams.

Walk-on play runs 10am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays from March through November, and private parties can book any day of the week. Drop Zone leans into a low impact experience built to be fun without the sting, which is a smart call for birthday parties, school groups and first-timers. THE EDGE PAINTBALL ADVENTURES

The Edge Paintball Adventures is Wichita’s weekend paintball spot, right off K-96 at 4305 N Ridge Rd. Open play is Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm, March through November, and weekdays are by paid reservation only. Their site lists woods, firebase and mounds areas, and a local news feature on the park noted that the courses get rotated and new inflatable obstacles have been added, so repeat players aren’t stuck with the same layout.

On pricing, the site lists a five-player pack at $120 that covers rental gear, all-day admission and 2,000 paintballs, with extra players at $15 each. Cash pricing applies, and electronic payments carry a 4% fee, so bring cash if you want the posted rate. Prices change, so check before you go.
